For its October 2016 “Post War & Contemporary Art” evening sale, Christie’s presents a small number of works with a modest total estimated valuation (*) of 19 million GBP (versus 26.5 in October 2015 and 39.6 in October 2014).
The artwork with the highest estimate (1.2 to 1.8 million GBP ) is "Bronzefrau N. 13" by artist Thomas Schutte.
In total only 6 lots have Low Estimates (LE) of more than 1 million GBP. They are by artists Jean Dubuffet, Adrain Ghenie, Gerald Laing, Kazuo Shiraga, Cy Twombly and Thomas Schutte.
The majority of artworks (32 out of 42) have Low estimates of less than 500,000 GBP including 7 of them with LEs under 100,000 GBP.
Only 4 lots have estimates between 500.000 and 1,000,000 GBP against 13 artworks last year outlining the difficulties auction houses have to secure interesting lots for this season.
Christie’s has ownership interest in « untitled » by Cy Twombly. Only 2 artworks are guaranteed by the auction house: One is with a naked guarantee while the other one is backed by a Third party guarantee.
