For its November 2016 "Impressionist & Modern Art" evening sale, Sotheby's presents a relatively small number of works (43 against 47 in 2015) with a modest total Low Estimated (LE) valuation of $146M (versus $274M in October 2015 and $333M in October 2014).
Edvard Munch’s "Girls" listed with no estimate is the top lot of the auction and could reach $50M on its own. "Le peintre et son modèle" from Pablo Picasso comes second with a Low Estimate of $12M. Both lots are covered by irrevocable bids.
Eleven lots have Low Estimates of more than $3M. This includes works by Picasso, Van Gogh, Matisse, Maurice de Vlaminck and Chagall.
The majority of artworks (19 out of 43) have Low estimates from $1 to $3M with works by artists Kandinsky, Marcel Duchamp, Modigliani, Paul Delvaux or Max Beckmann.
