While offering this year a smaller set of works (37 this November versus 52 in November 2015), Phillips presents a higher Total Low Estimated (LE) for its "20th Century & Contemporary Evening sale": $99m versus $64m a year ago.
The top lot is Gerhard Richter’s "Düsenjäger" with a Low Estimate (LE) of $25m. This lot is covered by a guarantee, financed by a Third party. Roy Lichtenstein’s "Nudes in Mirror" is the only artwork of the evening with "no estimate". Experts think that it could reach $20m.
In total 6 lots (16%) have a Low Estimates superior to $3M. In addition to the artists mentioned above, this top group includes works by Clyfford Still, David Hockney, Jeff Koons and Jean-Michel Basquiat.
11 more works (13%), have Low Estimates between $1 and $3m while the large majority of lots (51%) are featured with a Low Estimate below $1m.
Phillips doesn’t have any ownership interests in this auction. In total, 12 artworks have been guaranteed (more than 30%), including 9 purely by Phillips.
