For its November 2016 "Impressionist and Modern Art" evening sale, Christie’s presents a smaller number of works (49 vs 62 in 2015) with a higher total Low Estimated (LE): $202m vs $119m in Nov. 2015 and $80m in Nov. 2014.
Claude Monet’s "Meule" listed with no estimate is the top lot of the auction and could reach $45m on its own. Pablo Picasso, Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Cézanne are the top following artists with works all listed with LE above $10m.
More than 30% of the catalogued lots (15 out of 49) have LEs of more than $3m. This top group includes works by Marc Chagall, Chalm Soutine, Fernand Léger and Joan Miro.
An additional 45% (22 out of 49) have LEs from $1 to $3m including works by Pierre Bonnard, Paul Signac, Henri Matisse and Henry Moore.
Christie’s does not have any ownership interest. Only two lots are financially covered by a Third party, "Rigide et Courbé" by Kandinsky and "Cavalière" by Marino Marini.
