Christie’s offering for its New York Contemporary Art Evening November Sales continues to decrease after reaching its top in 2014. This year, the Total Low Estimate of catalogued lots (*) is $228m (compared to $335m in 2015 and $622m in 2014). The number of artworks offered is also more modest with 65 lots catalogued versus 70 in 2015 and 82 in 2016.
De Kooning’s "Untitled XXV" listed with « no estimate » is the top lot of the auction and could fetch $40M on its own.
Most lots (25 out of 65) have Low Estimates of more than $3m. This includes 4 lots with Low Estimates above $10m by Richter, Dubuffet, John Currin and Robert Ryman.
32% of artworks (21 out of 65) have Low estimates from $1 to $3M. This includes works by Twombly, David Hockney, Rauschenberg and Calder.
Christie’s has two ownership interests in the auction: "Gorilla" by Jeff Koons and “Untitled” by Joan Mitchell. A total of 17 lots have guarantees, 9 provided by Christie’s directly and 8 covered by Third parties.
