Similarly to last year, Christie’s offers only 10 works of art with LE over $3 million, but increases its offering of artworks less than $3 million to 42 this year versus 34 last year, bringing the total of artworks offered to 52 this year versus 44 last year.
The auction’s star lot, "Le Bassin aux Nympheas" from Claude Monet has an estimation bracket of 40% from $25 million to $35 million. The latest auction sale from the collection "Nympheas" by Monet obtained a hammer price equal to its low estimate (LE) at $30 million in November 2015 at Sotheby’s.
The other star of the evening is Picasso with 10 artworks offered for sale with LE ranging from $0.5 million to $8 million.
Remarkably not one artwork bears a guarantee on this sale, versus 6 works last year.
