Christie's offers this year a reduced group of 61 lots (versus 85 last year) for a total valuation of $296 million (versus $480 million last year).
Nevertheless, artworks with a Low Estimate (LE) higher than $3 million represent 43% of the lots offered, including "No 17" by Mark Rothko (with an estimate of $30 to $40 million) and "Untitled", a large work by Jean-Michel Basquiat for which an estimate is provided upon request.
The star of the evening is Alexander Calder with 11 artworks offered for sale with LE ranging from $0.5 million to $6 million.
Only 8 artworks are guaranteed, including 5 backed by irrevocable bids.
