A relatively small offering from Christie's for this May Impressionist and Modern sale in New York with only 10 works of art estimated over $3 million.
One could wonder whether this is the impact of 1) the "Looking forward to the Past" auction scheduled on May 12th, 2) the relatively small number of guarantees offered by Christie's on this sale or 3) another reason all together.
In any case, it could very well be the reason why Christie's decided not to face Sotheby's directly with its Impressionist and Modern Sale and announced that it was moving the auction date from May 4th to May 14th.
The auction’s star lot, the Mondrian has a wider than average estimation bracket of 50% from $15 million to $25 million. On the other hand top lot Degas’ "Trois Danseuses" has a tighter than average estimation bracket of 29% from $6 million to $8 million.
