Despite offering a larger number of lots than Sotheby’s, Christie’s auction this June remains relatively modest with only 36 artworks registered for a total estimated valuation (*) of £38,270,000.
Still the offering counts 13 lots with a Low Estimate superior to £1 million, including 2 lots with a LE superior to £3 million: "L’ancienne rue de la chaussee, Argenteuil" by Claude Monnet, (estimated at £4.5 to £6 million) and "Madame Hanka Zborowka" by Amadeo Modigliano (estimated at £5 to £7 million).
The auction star artists are Pablo Picasso and - more unusually - Wassily Kandinsky with four artworks by each artists offered for sale. The auction also includes three artworks by Paul Klee and three by Marc Chagall.
Interestingly 2/3 of the lots offered are under temporary importation.
Like Sotheby’s, Christie’s only has one guarantee covering the Claude Monet artwork. Contrarily to Sotheby’s however, the guarantee is covered by a third party.
